Product Reviews: W3LL People Multi-Use Color Sticks, Eyeliner, and Eye Shadow

Guys! I have four new favorite makeup items!

I’m going to review them all at once, since they’re all from W3LL People.

1. Universalist 1 and 2 as a duo pot—or as separate sticks. I have the sticks, and I love them. Now, the internet has a serious makeup-color-showing problem (which is why we need more brick and mortars, please, especially in New York), so I’m going to politely ask you to ignore the colors you see on your screen and indulge me as I try to describe them instead.

The colored stick you see here on the left, Universalist 1, looks in person more like a bronzey, dusty rose. It’s got a lot of glow to it without being sparkly, and it has become my go-to everyday blush. It’s literally impossible to mess up, and it’s flattering on every skin color I’ve seen it on. You can dab it on lightly for a super subtle healthy glow or layer it on a little thicker for evening, if you want the color to pop more. Little trick Shirley from W3LL People taught me: Apply a tiny amount under the edge of your eyebrow arch—just a dab, guys—and you won’t really be able to see it, but it makes your eyes really pop!

The 2, meanwhile, is not a solid color at all, as it appears in some pictures. It’s actually a luminizer/highlighter, and it works great on cheekbones, cupids bow, eyelids and even under the outside edge off eye. Just be sure to blend it well. Looks so great! You can see me dorking out about it, and see Shirley explaining how to apply them in the video over here.

(Because we only hawk the stuff we love, you can also currently get both in our little deal. If you want.)

2. The black eyeliner. Also wild about their new eyeliner! Because it’s not technically waterproof I was warned against under eye lash lining but I find it works great and lasts—even at cry-inducing weddings and on hot days. At the same time, it washes off easily with my Kahina cleanser, which is a nice plus. I’ve been into tight-lining my upper lash line and the outside of my lower lash line with it for a nice sharp pop. Fun!

3. The shimmery eyeshadow. I have Elitist 814, which you can see over here. Shirley applied it on me when she did my makeup for that video (confidential to Shirley: Can you do my makeup every day? Thank you) and I’ve since been using it for day and night. For night I layer it with a darker browny bronze. For day I wear it solo when I’m feeling a little less than spiritely, like today! It doesn’t look cakey or teenybopper at all—it’s quite subtle, but makes a huge difference. The color, which is a warm salmony gold, is just so pretty.

Have you tried any new makeup you love?

Thanks for sharing this with us! I’m dying to try RMS and W3ll People. I just cannot decide which to go with!! I hear it in my head like a fight, “RMS”…”W3ll”…”RMS”…”W3ll” haha. I’ve tried to read reviews, blah blah. I know W3ll People sells samples, anyone know how much product in these? Anyone know how to purchase samples of RMS? Any thoughts on the two comparatively? I live in Eugene, Oregon so I’m going to have to order anything online I’m sure…

Eeks Ally, that’s a bit of a Sophie’s choice for us since we love both brands so much… What’s your skin type? What colors do you like better?

  3. Rebecca says:

@Ally, I love my RMS. Spirit Beauty Lounge has a really great sample program, and they sell RMS so you could try a whole bunch of things. Just go to their site and on a particular product click “sample” and it will tell you how it works. I love this for trying things and to have travel sizes.

@Ally, I’d try Spirit Beauty Lounge, too. You get ten samples for $25 (which seems high, but you also get a coupon for $10 off a full-size item), and you can have a sample of ANYTHING. They’re pretty generous, and since most truly natural products are so highly pigmented, they last awhile. Plus, you get three additional samples with any order, so once you’ve chosen your ten, you’ll choose three more (of their pre-chosen packaged ones) at checkout. I always get Kahina Argan Oil as one of my three, because it’s the perfect for traveling! I highly recommend it if you’re unsure.

W3ll People really is a lovely company with great products. I ordered a few things from them when they were up in a Friday deal. Business awesomeness: They messed up my order, but were super SUPER prompt and friendly and helpful about fixing it. Good customer service. Product awesomeness: The eyeliner really is very nice, and the rosy color in the pot duo is extremely versatile, just as Siobhan says. Also worth noting is that the texture of the Universalists is smooth and harder/more resilient than I anticipated. That’s a very welcome surprise, as it helps the nice sheer colors stick around longer than you might expect.

I also ordered some samples from them. I’m a very pale girl, and I’ll say that their color range in the powder end of things suits me very well, but that the Narcissist foundation sticks were waaaay too dark for me, even though I tried the two lightest shades. (Although, full disclosure, the two samples looked almost identical–maybe they forgot to send the lightest one, and that would have been better?)

I do hope to try some RMS products in the future, but haven’t been able to fit them in the budget, yet. Friday deal?!

W3ll People samples are fairly generous as a little goes a long way. I’ve been working on the same universalist 5 sample (lips only, not every day, applied sparingly) for over a month. I have some minor issues with coconut oil so for all over, every day items like concealer I need to use a product without and I love W3ll People for that. Some W3ll people products have a little coconut oil but for special occasions I can cope. I will admit however that were it not for the coconut oil and its relationship with my complicated skin, that I would have tried RMS as well. If you have the kind of skin that can go through anything without breaking out I would try both companies (I know, that’s not helpful). In terms of colours I have pale, soft golden skin and all the W3ll People I’ve tried has been very complementary. The Narcissist 2 is a perfect match, performs beautifully, and the size is generous so I don’t have to hold back from using it for fear of running out ( I live in the Yukon). Someone on another blog said that they use RMS in the winter when their skin is dry and Well People in the summer. The product lines are different enough that I would try both.

  7. Ally says:

@Alexandra, I know, choosing between two beloveds. Sorry ;) The colors in both lines look great, my only concern is anything shimmery/glittery. I really want to try RMS lip2cheek in Smile, luminizer, and the uncover up. Likewise, I want to try W3ll People’s foundation and universalist sticks.

@Rebecca and Lola, thanks SO much for directing me to Spirit Beauty Lounge, I had no idea about the sample program. So helpful. Thank you!

Thanks everyone for the insight! I appreciate the thoughts. Sheesh, it’s so hard to pick out products online… never know what colors look like, if your skin will even like the stuff ahh! Not to mention, I live in Eugene, Oregon…awesome, but not a lot around here… I feel like for the money I need to sample both lines first. I don’t mind spending the money, I just want to make sure it’s right for me… I see it as an investment.

    waaaaannnttt!!!

@ally – i had that same internal fight! I tried both! I have to say that i give the edge to rms, although i liked w3ll people. I was interested in rms’s “un”coverup and emailed because i couldn’t decide which shade. Well, i promptly was sent samples. That’s good customer service. Another bonus is that you can get free shipping with just a $25 order. Spirit has a high minimum and i remember not ordering from the w3ll people site because it was some insane price, about $12. I bought my w3ll people from another vendor whenn it offerred free ship.
When comparing narcissist to “un” coverup i just liked the texture of the rms line better. Both are pretty sheer and don’t offer heavy coverage, but you can layer.

  10. Fern says:

@ally – I use both RMS Un converup and W3ll People Narcissist. Once I figured I wasn’t the palest color in either line, I fell in love with both of them. RMS is more glow-y and I use it as an all-over foundation on the weekends. I use Narcisist every day as a concealer – it’s very matte. I actually use Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques creme foundation every day because I feel like it’s a good mix between matte and glow-y without being too expensive (and my skin loves it). I can layer any or all ot these if necessary (I have terrible acne & lots of acne scars) depending on where I need more coverage.

  11. Karen says:

Does anyone know if their eyeliner has coconut oil in it? I tried looking on their website, but I couldn’t find the ingredients for their new products. I’m crazy allergic to coconuts (which is super depressing when shopping for naturals – why RMS?!) Also, does anyone know if they are planning to come out with more colors? I’m more of a plum eyeliner kinda girl myself. Great post! I’m looking forward to trying out their foundation.

  12. Ally says:

@Kristen & @Fern, thank you for your thoughts, I really appreciate it! I ordered samples of RMS via the Spirit Beauty Lounge sample kit and W3ll People samples through their site. I’m going to try both, in a ton of colors just to make sure. They’re in the mail right now! Thanks!

After reading so many good things re W3LL People I decided to order the Matte Universalist in shade 7 & I’m now a fan! It’s thicker/more drier & more highly pigmented than expected but lasts a lot longer than many greasier cream sticks! As I live in Spain the most economical option for me was to order online from a stockist in London,UK.
