Tammy Fender’s Morning Hair and Skin Routine…. Exposed!

This seems to be something of a Tuesday tradition now! Today’s Morning Routine Exposed! belongs to Tammy Fender, founder of one of our favorite clean brands by the same name. Not surprisingly, Tammy uses all of her own luxurious products every morning—making us pretty jelly. She also has some great tips on internal health too (though even Tammy breaks some clean girl rules when it comes to lipstick!). Have you tried the Tammy Fender line yet? Let us know in the comments. (Maybe we can convince her to do a Friday Deal or contest, ya?)

Name: Tammy Fender

Current Weather: Beautiful South Florida fall

Hair: Blonde with shades of honey/caramel, long and wavy, blow-dried straight

Skin: Fair in color, normal with a tendency towards dryness

Before the shower…

Upon awakening I drink a glass of room temperature water with lemon to assist with digestion. Lemon also strengthens melanin production (the pigment that gives skin its color) and is an excellent source of Vitamin C, allowing the skin to become more resistant to sun-damage caused by UV radiation. I always dry brush my skin before showering to stimulate the lymphatic system, increase circulation and gently slough off dead surface cells.

In the shower…

I exfoliate my facial skin with my Epi Peel applied to a Clarisonic brush…the combination refines the pores and allows for a deeper penetration of serums and crème. I also use my new Restorative Hair Cleanser and Revitalizing Hair Moisturizer that are filled with essential nutrients for healthy, soft locks. People comment on the amazing scent all day—it is subtle yet perfectly aromatic.

Outside the shower…

After a warm cleansing shower, in the AM I apply my Rose Geranium & Tangerine Body Lotion for an energizing, all over body hydration—the skin quickly drinks up this nutrient-rich moisturizer allowing me to get dressed with no delay.  (After a PM shower, I apply my Bulgarian Lavender Body Oil while my skin is still warm and slightly damp. The moisture and suppleness of the skin combined with the aroma of lavender help calm both my body & mind…..) I always sit quietly for 10 to 15 minutes and do a light meditation to get centered and focused for the day.

Finishing touches…

An application of my super-hydrating Spontaneous Recovery Crème and a swipe of my Lip Guardian lavender cacao lip balm to give my skin and lips an added layer of moisture and protection. I also apply a drop or two of Bulgarian Rose essential oil and a very light amount of Glow lipstick in Secret.

I tried Tammy’s Intensive Recovery Balm after your rave review and I don’t think my skin has ever looked better! I try lots of clean products, but that one may be the holy grail! Now I’m curious about her Spontaneous Recovery Creme, since it’s what she uses, but at $165 or so, it’s pretty pricey. A Friday Deal for TF would be great!

  2. DW says:

Hey, surprise! Lady that runs product company uses all her own products to get ready.
I really like this series, but could you run some not-so-obvious submissions?

  3. Nancy says:

Great product line. Have tried a few of them and they are all fantastic. To all of you that can manage a trip to West Palm Beach (or find an excuse to make one:) for a facial, do it! Heavenly!

  4. Alexandra says:

Tell us what you really think Deanna! ;) Totally hear where you’re coming from but we’ve been trying to mix it up and we thought Tammy had some nice tips aside from the products she used.

  5. Nicole says:

Would love a Tammy Fender Friday Deal, however, please make sure it’s available to Canadians!! I can’t buy her products anywhere here… le grand sigh.

  6. Anu says:

Hi! I’ve been using Antioxidant Creme Neroli & Orange creme. I love it because it soothes my skin. I would love to try Spontaneous Recovery Creme too! One day I’m going to Florida for the facial. :)

Two rather low maintenance morning routines in a row. Yay! I’m starting to love these. Tammy makes her morning routine sound like such a lovely ritual instead of a chore. Since a lot of these routines include dry brushing, I hope that there will soon be a blog post covering this process. I know nothing about it, but am intrigued, since it appears so often.

Thanks for this ladies! I recently stopped into GreenLine on Melrose Ave. and was delighted to find that they now carry Tammy Fender. I purchased the EpiPeel (very happy with I must say, and pleased to find an alternative to my not clean Kate Sommerville Exfolikate) and asked for samples.
The only bad thing I have to say about this Morning routine is that I’M EXTREMELY JEALOUS that she’s gets to slather all those gorgeous potions all over her 24/7. The meditation, dry brushing and lemon w/water in the am is nothing new. I’ve seen it on the site before. Still, thanks for sharing! You should go ahead and get Tata Harper to do a morning routine as well :) love you guys!

  9. Dain says:

I got the Intensive Repair Balm (I too was drawn in by your raves), and it’s a superb moisturizer that penetrates for deep-down hydration and lasts for hours, but the texture is disgustingly sticky, collecting dust. I’ve learned to negate the stickiness by layering face oil on top, but I’ve been wondering if I got a bad batch somehow.

  10. Jaime says:

I really love reading the morning routines and Yes I agree with Comagirl- Almost all of the morning routines that you have featured include dry brushing before they shower, but I too have no idea what it is all about and would love to learn more!

  11. nancy says:

I should have included this in my first comments * a Friday Deal with her line would be super nice! *
I too would love to try her new Spontaneous Recovery Creme and line of hair products….
And on her routine, where she mentions the combo Epi Peel applied with a Clarisonic brush…What does your heart sit with the Clarisonic brush(as for the Epi Peel we already know is great)?
At last, and as suggested by Comagirl, it would be great to see a post dedicated to dry brushing. Although I’ve been doing since discovering it here, depending where you search, you will get different instructions on how-to (long strokes x circular ones…. Spirit D.’s blog x Evan Healy’s blog)

  12. pao says:

i am in love with the epi peel! before going clean i used sisley creme gommage and missed it’s dearly. epi peel is even better! love it even more than the tata harper mask. i would love some more info from tammy on the differences between her moisturizers and which are better for specific skin conditions such as scarring, acne, ’30s-aging and seasonal changes, etc. i would love to purchase all her products to test each one myself, but it’s too expensive and the info on her site doesn’t go into any comparative detail. i’ve tried and loved the quintessential serum and intensive repair balm (from the travel kit) but would really like to know if some of her other products might be better for me– such as the spontaneous recovery or the antioxidant creme. choice paralysis!

  13. comagirl says:

Thanks Nancy, I’ll check out those blogs. I’m really interested and curious about the dry brushing, just because it has been posted here so many times. I’m not sure I have what it takes to make it part of my morning ritual, but we shall see.

  14. Pepper says:

Reading this makes my stock of clean products seem so much less classy! So jealous! I would LOVE to try Tammy Fender products, but I’m pretty sure my husband would be so confused if I spent that much.

@Nancy I have a clarisonic brush and I wholeheartedly love it. It makes my skin feel so smooth and products absorb better after such a deep cleaning. Granted, I use mine with a bar of whole foods face soap instead of the epi peel, which I’m sure is a far superior product. But despite that, I still love my clarisonic. My face would be sad without it!

@Jaime I do dry brushing before I get in the shower and it makes my skin feel smooth and pretty. My skin is super dry and itchy too, so it’s like a big wonderful scratch that feels amazing. I just do it the way it’s laid out by a few people…circular strokes starting at the feet and up the legs, extra attention paid to cellulite prone areas. Then from fingers in, and then my stomach and back, and very gently on my chest. I found it was a little uncomfortable at first, but once I got used to it I found it lovely!

  15. Mbelle says:

I love this series… But I agree that this one is too blatantly marketing to her own expensive products. :(

  16. yogagirlsf says:

too much shameless self-promotion in this post for me to even take this seriously. hope the next one feels more balanced. and please don’t cave in to marketing, girls. i love your book and blog because you speak the truth.

  17. Melody says:

I’m very intrigued by this dry-brushing! I’d never heard of it before NMDL, and I am increasingly tempted to try it–I’ve searched and found so many different types of dry-brushes on the web… Any recomendations on what would be a good brush to start with? :)

  18. Siobhan says:

My take: Every women we know with her own skin care line—and we know many of them—use their own products. Wouldnt it be weird if they didnt? And because we like to share with you all about small lines run by actual people—as opposed to giant corporations—we thought it would be fun to put a real-life story to the names we all know. I personally loved reading this one. I wish I could use all the products she uses, but I was mostly just curious what, from her own line, she loves the most.

  19. mbelle says:

@Siobhan…..I love Evan Healy products, and I would love to read more about her and her products. But a posting about her using her own products wouldn’t tell me anything! I agree–it would be weird if people making their own products didn’t use them…so why post the obvious?! :) I learn so much from this blog and people’s comments, but this one just fell flat for me. And to be honest, it actually turned me off towards Tammy Fender.

  20. Nicolle says:

I’d LOVE a Tammy Fender Friday Deal! Wanted to try her line since you’ve raved about it, but can’t convince myself it’s worth the high price tag…

  21. Siobhan says:

@mbelle We hear you, but we can’t hit a homerun with all of you guys every time. Everything we post, we post with readers in mind — but you’re all a rich and varied bunch!

And re: Evan: She doesn’t make shampoo and there could be some surprises there….

  22. mbelle says:

Yikes, I’ve clearly hit a defensive button here, not my intention Siobhan! I appreciate all the research you two do. From the other comments I’m not the only one who felt this way about this post. You ask us to comment, and we do!

I’m confused about the bit re: Evan and surprises. Surprises that she may be coming out with shampoo, or that her products have some surprising ingredients in them? And if she doesn’t make shampoo/conditioner, all the more reason to hear what brands and products she does use.

  23. Danielle says:

I just want to put in another request for a post dedicated to dry brushing :) I’ve seen it mentioned in several morning routines, but I would love a more detailed explanation of the how & why.

  24. Dr.MomTH says:

I am heading to Miami (for business sadly) in about 3 weeks, but I have made time for a Tammy Fender facial! I am so excited I can barely wait! I have never tried her products so I can’t wait to see how my crazy skin responds. And yes, the fact that she uses her own products is no shocker…but it is nice to hear how and when she applies them.
