Meatless Monday Inspiration: What’s Your Favorite Food Blog?

I’ve developed a full-blown internet crush on a lady who lives in Copenhagen. Her name is Sarah Britton, she’s a nutritionist, a vegetarian chef, and she does things like make heart-shaped beet ravioli for her husband in her spare time—which she documents charmingly on her site My New Roots.

Also, most of her recipes are gluten-free or easily made gluten-free, many are vegan, and she has gorgeous photos that run along with her recipes, making them ever-more appealing. Poke around her site and I bet you fall for her too.

Then hit command-T and visit Svelte Gourmand, a health-focused site run by two hyphenate-heavy friends of mine, Sara Reistad-Long and Camille Noe-Pagan. They share delicious recipes with a health spin, often pegged to solid research about what we should be eating, when and why.

Then once you have that bookmarked, hit command-T again and go hang out with my friend and colleague Joy Manning at Oyster Evangelist. She’s a cookbook author, cooks a lot at home and her recipes are inspiring, accessible and delicious. She’s also a total crack-up.

So with Sarah as our inspiration, I’d like to know what food blogs you love. The more vegetarian-friendly the better, seeing as it’s Monday, but I’m all ears, really.

Cybele Pascal – she does allergen free cooking. Not necessarily vegetarian, but unprocessed and her cookbook was a life saver for me when I discovered I had multiple food allergies.

Rawmazing is full of great vegan/raw/gluten free recipes – and this is stuff anyone would find delicious. Most of the recipes are simple and don’t require a ton of equipment, as sometimes can be true of raw foods recipes. There’s also “transitional” recipes that include some cooked ingredients. I highly recommend to anyone who likes to eat!

I LOVE Kristen’s Raw Blog. She’s so inspiring. Although, I’m not vegan and don’t follow a raw diet, I do love trying her recipes. I also love her Green Mommy Blog too. I also follow Simply Sugar and Gluten Free, Carrots N Cake, and Gluten Free Girl. Please everyone check these out. They’re all fabulous.

Hi ladies! I’m a long-time devotee of Evan Healy and John Masters products, but somehow only found your blog the other day. It’s a great read — thanks for putting together such a fantastic green beauty community! Anyhow, just wanted to contribute a terrific cooking blog for today’s roundup. Ele Busing over at http://www.kitchenist.com prepares largely vegetarian dishes and always tries to cook with what’s most in season and available to her in London. Her recipes rock and her writing style is fun and conversational, so what’ snot to love? :)

I love http://www.theppk.com <– The Post Punk Kitchen. Inventive, delicious and totally filling vegan recipes that focus on whole foods (read: no soy cheese, fake meat, etc.). I'm definitely going to check out these other sites–great idea, guys!

^They have the cutest little girl, awesome photos/recipes, and I just find them comforting in general.

Oh crap I knew this would happen. I now have so many tabs open! Thanks for all the recs–keep em coming!

  13. Samantha says:

Wow–just spent some time over on “My New Roots”–love it! Thanks for the reco.

One food blog I enjoy is The Wednesday Chef (http://www.thewednesdaychef.com/)–lovely photos, great recipes, written by an ex-NYer now living in Berlin. So in addition to the recipes, you get a glimpse of life in a fab foreign city. Her recipes stress local, in-season, whole foods. I’m a vegetarian and while her recipes are not all vegetarian-friendly, some are–and are wonderful!–plus the blog is always a mouthwatering read, even if I wouldn’t make the recipe because it contains meat.

Avec Eric http://www.aveceric.com/ (not a blog, but I love it anyway – the only chef who has ever actually taught me something truly valuable)

    Becks and Posh http://becksposhnosh.blogspot.com/

LA Times Test Kitchen http://www.latimes.com/features/food/la-fo-recipeindexarchive2008,0,5938840.storygallery (also not a blog, but a quick reference when I’m feeling uninspired) Yes, there is a vegetarian and vegan section)

Not really health or eco conscious, but man oh man their rice pudding was to DIE for. They frequently coincide their recipes with their garden bounty and their photography projects. http://whiteonricecouple.com/

For sheer laugh out loud writing style I love Ree. http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/

Annie is getting a little more eco/health conscious, has the best dessert recipes I’ve tested, and is quite seasonal with her cooking as well. http://annies-eats.com/

I frequently just take regular recipes and modify them to vegetarian.

  16. Letitia says:

    Food in Jars: http://www.foodinjars.com
It’s a preserving website, so it gives you a million ways to keep fruits, veggies, nuts, and grains in heavy rotation no matter the season. Warning: so delicious you will want to run out and buy canning supplies.

  17. Sarah says:

    Modern Vintage Cooking: http://modernvintagecooking.blogspot.com/

Mostly vegetarian and vegan foods. Think Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars, Vegetarian Chili (my favorite recipe), gazpacho, baked falafel with lemon tahini yogurt sauce, pumpkin apple cranberry granola, etc.

How could I have forgotten this one: http://whatthefuckshouldimakefordinner.com/ (Sorry, if I doth offend – I didn’t name the blog).

  19. Kelly says:

http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/ is my favorite vegan blog. Fantastic photography, creative recipes, and the author also periodically does special posts about health (like different types of energizing foods).
