Product Review: La Bella Figura Decouverte Eye Repair Serum [UPDATED WITH A LINK]

Every so often, we get an email about a natural beauty line that sends our special authenticity detector off the charts.

You know when you can just tell that someone a) is the real deal, and b) would be really fun to have dinner with? Well, when Karen King from Chicago emailed us about her new organic skincare line La Bella Figura, that’s what happened. We wrote her back and asked what she thought her stand-out product was, which is when she told us about her Decouverte Eye Repair Serum.

Plagued with hereditary dark undereye circles—not to mention the occasional not-enough-sleep and too-many-cocktails nights—Karen says she was on a mission to find natural ingredients that would be great for her eyes. “In our research we discovered barbary fig seed oil. I was very interested in the composition of this oil with its very high linoleic acid content and because it contains Vitamin K, which helps stop leaky capillaries, one of the main reason for dark circles. However, I was very skeptical because it is very hard to get, time consuming to produce, and therefore very costly.”

Well, after experimenting on her own mug, she found barbary fig seed oil to be so great that she made an eye serum for the rest of us.

Now, to be honest, I’ve never had much of an undereye-circle issue but I totally have smile lines around my eyes (doesn’t bother me) and in the last few months I have thought the skin under my eyes might feel thinner and as a result, a little darker (bothers me a bit). Also, there are the puffy-eye days. We all have them thanks to things like salty food, booze and tears, and they suck.

I’m happy to report that La Bella Figura eye serum noticeably reduces inflammation on puffy-eye days, hydrates the lines around my eyes, and, yes, the skin under my eyes feels somehow thicker and looks less dark. It’s true! Even if I feel bad recommending a product that costs $115.

Now, am I sleeping better than I did last month? I don’t know, I think so? But the point is, it’s hard to know what’s what—but that’s always the case with beauty products.

There are no silver bullets, lifestyle accounts for a lot, so do our genes, and so does diet, but products certainly can and do work, in their way. I’m going to say this is one of those products.

Here are the ingredients:

100% Pure Organic Argan (Argania Spinosa) Kernel Oil, Organic Opuntia Ficus Indica (Barbary Fig) Seed Oil, Organic Rosa Rubiginosa (Rosehip) Seed Oil, Wild-crafted Lycopersicion Esculentum (Tomato) Seed Oil, Wild-crafted Coffea Arabica (Coffee Bean) Oil, Wild-crafted Rosa Damascena (Rose Otto) Flower Oil, Organic Tanacetum Annuum (Blue Tansy) Flower Oil, Organic Helichrysum Italicum Oil, Organic Cymbopogon Martinii Motia (Palmarosa) Oil, Organic Lavandulia Augustifolia (Lavender) Oil.

Ooooh. I love this site and lurk like nobody’s business, and while I appreciate the product shout outs, rarely do I go out and purchase the items. This one is different, I can tell….it speaks to my cursed under eye *bruises* and I am going to buy this PRONTO.

  2. Karen says:

Oh my! Where can I get this? And for how much?

I’ve also inherited dark under eye circles, and I am constantly trying new things in attempt to improve the look of them. I’ve been eying Tata Harper’s eye serum, but with school and a lightened work schedule, it’s only been window shopping. If La Bella Figura is less expensive, I will definitely bump it to the top of my want list (…or possibly even if it’s not!)

Right now I’ve been using Kahina’s under eye treatment, which definitely leaves the skin hydrated but it doesn’t seem to be doing much for the discoloration…

  3. Karen says:

Okay, nevermind… I found her shop, and realized I skipped over the part where you mentioned price. I got a little over excited at the prospect of lightening my circles ;) Definitely even less within my price range at the moment, but I am saving my pennies..

Between Tata’s eye serum and La Bella Figura’s, do you think you have a preference?

This is the third time I hear about La Bella Figura this week! I think the Universe is trying to tell me something. I love that they are using rare ingredients. Thank you for including their ingredient list. I am dying to try this serum!

I seem to have forgotten this is a website. Sorry I forgot the links!! They are in there now. Also: http://labellafigurabeauty.com/

Perfect timing! I just ran out of my eye treatment; (Lotus Moon eye gel ) about a week ago. I was in limbo about purchasing the same one or trying something new. Meanwhile, I’ve been using John Master’s Vitamin C Serum that I usually use on my face, on my eye area to. It actually works well on the eye area, and I was thinking that I would stick with this routine for a while, until I saw this post. I must admit that I love to try new products! I have hereditary dark circles, and no product ever seems to help with this problem aside from concealer. I’ll give this one a try. Thanks!

I seriously would not be able to look remotely normal without this eye serum! I called before buying and explained my eye problems. The ladies were so helpful and really knew how ingredients work. So far, I have tried everything except the hair elixir, but will soon. After a few weeks of using Decouverte my eyes looks nice and toned and like I have slept 12 hours a day. I am a real fan of this brand! I think they make really good products.

If it were less expensive I’d love to try it – but $115 is out of hand. It’s tempting though, how about a Friday deal?? I like 100% Pure’s coffee bean eye cream, which is very reasonably priced and the only thing I’ve ever used that gets rid of puffiness. I notice the Decouverte has coffee bean oil too. I haven’t yet done my DIY eye cream, largely because I’m pretty happy with 100% Pure, but I did try to find some barbary fig oil online to add to a recipe, no luck yet. I always used to have massive dark circles and wake up puffy, but dietary changes to vegan/raw/gluten free made a huge difference. I use argan oil for day/night and then the 100% Pure cream in the morning if I wake up puffy. My eyes look good, with a hint of dark circles but nowhere near as bad as they used to be.

  9. nancy says:

I second the idea of a Friday deal :) Maybe you could work some of your magic to entice this crowd..
On the clean products I’ve tried and liked: Tata Harper and Tammy Fender. Both excelent but since I do not suffer from undereye circles, cannot attest for their effectiviness on it. Second also the fact that eye creams are to be used in the am routine only.. otherwise you will wake up quite puffy as they are formulated to retain moisture.

  10. Jill says:

I have a question about using all these oils around the eye area and then putting on mascara and NOT getting racoon eyes by lunch time. Since I have switched to clean moisturizers I cannot get any brand or mascara(waterproof or not) to STAY PUT! Prior to going “clean” I never once had this problem! And the kicker is that my coworkers don’t tell me! I end up using the ladies room when the time arises and look in the mirror as I am washing my hands and UGH the racoon lady is back! I try and only use the oil at night and just a light lotion in the am, but to no avail. Suggestions???

  11. Rebecca says:

@Jill, what oil are you using, maybe you need a lighter one?? My whole life I’ve had “oily” lids (really bizarre – does this happen to anyone else?). I use my Alima mineral foundation under my eyes and on my lids, then a finishing powder over that. I’m currently using my own mix of kaolin clay, arrowroot powder, rice powder and my foundation color mixed in equal amounts. No oiliness anywhere but I still get a nice glow. And I use the Tatcha blotting papers occasionally later in the day if needed. My mascara is Real Purity, and I have no smearing or flaking problems, though I only ever use mascara on the upper lashes. Another thought – I take off my mascara by washing off with Kahina cleanser at night, then I typically use the cleanser again in my morning shower. So there’s not any excessive oils. Is it weird that I wash my eyelids? Heh.

  12. Catherine says:

With allergies, two little ones and baby #3 on the way, I could definitely use some help with my dark circles! This looks great!! Is the applicator a roll-on or a dropper?

  15. Veronica says:
