Happy Friday Deal from Kahina Giving Beauty!

Salut, salut! We’re reeeeeally excited about this Friday Deal because it’s so, well, simple. It’s from one of our all time favorite lines, and you get the pick of the litter here on what you want to stock up on—which is good, because summer’s over, and if there’s one thing we know (as we have been discussing lately) it’s that skin needs extra TLC when the seasons change. Also, and follow us here: When fall comes, and our outfits get more subdued, and we’re showing less skin (here’s hoping anyway), there is even more emphasis placed on our faces. Which means we want to be keeping them in tip-top shape, are we right?

Specifically, your skin needs barriers from the elements. And it needs sun-damage repair. And it needs hydration! All of which Kahina, and its all-star ingredient argan oil, provide in spades.

So here’s the deal: Buy anything on the Kahina Giving Beauty site between now and next Thursday the 15th at midnight, enter the code 15UNTIL15 at checkout, and you’ll get 15% off your order. Simple, clean, generous—just like the line itself!

Now! If you’re looking for suggestions, here’s what WE are thinking of doing: Stocking up on the stuff we know we’re going to be needing as the seasons change: the lotion, which helps protect against the elements, the oil, because it’s the best multitasker we’ve found, the eye cream, and the mask. Masks are a great way to ready your skin for seasonal changes—it sloughs off dead skin making it more radiant, but it’s also so nourishing and calming. Siobhan actually finds that when she uses it, the natural pinkyness of her skin—which she has learned to love, sure—is reduced visibly.

If you want more ideas, check out this 10-point list on how to use argan from head-to-toe written by the amazing Mairin Cipolla from KGB.

Also, a lot of you have been asking us lately about the difference between the different argan oils on the market, and why some cost more than others. Here is a great primer, written by the lovely Katharine (we call her Kahina behind her back).

Happy shopping!

You know I’m all over this one! It’s oil and cleanser for me.

Thank you for posting the links on argan oils. I recently purchased a very small bottle for an ungodly amount and I don’t care much for the fragrance, but it is working well on my hair. I will definitely check out the links.

Perfect timing! I was just noticing this week that some of my supplies are low, this is not only a reminder to stock up but a great chance to save while doing so! I’m loving the cleanser, the serum and the oil – I used to have almost no brand loyalty and switched around like mad but I am sticking to this fantastic line which works so well for me AND I love the human aspect of supporting the Moroccan women. Now, should I get the eye cream? Hmm….

p.s. Very interesting reading about the logic behind the argan oil price point spectrum!

  4. Lisa says:

I was just wondering if they ship to Canada… I know this comes up every time you post one of these deals but when I tried to place an order the only country option for shipping was ‘USA’

    Thanks :)

I’m sure Kahina is a great, ethical brand and all, but after reading the link, I did some of my own research on argan oil, and it turns out that ALL argan oil available for purchase in the western world is produced by women’s cooperatives organized by UNESCO. So Kahina may hype this more than other brands, but really, it seems that most of the added price is branding. As for the methods of cultivation, harvest, and extraction, there are many brands of argan oil that use the same methods as Kahina’s (and are probably in fact produced in the exactly the same place) that are far far cheaper than Kahina’s. Not trying to knock the company, I’ve never tried they’re other products but I’ve heard they’re great, but you can’t just take a company’s word that their product is better than all the others. Branding and hype make a huge difference.

  7. @Lisa no we don’t typically ship to Canada, but email us info@givingbeauty.com for options

@Naomi – glad you read & liked Katharine’s blog about argan oil & pricing! Obviously you should get the Eye Cream ;) So fantastic that Kahina is working out for your skin. We know what it’s like to bounce around… and then to finally find “the one”!

@Rebecca – thank you for your continued loyalty & sharing on the boards. You’re the best!

    Happy weekend all!

  8. Hi Jane,

We appreciate it when our customers do their homework, but I have to jump in and clarify some things surrounding the production of argan oil. All argan oil does not come from cooperatives organized by UNESCO, and all cooperatives are not alike. The argan cooperatives are formed by groups of women, mostly in small villages. They receive some funding from the Moroccan government to assist them in their start up costs. They are not all certified organic, and simply because they are cooperatives, it doesn’t mean that all the women are treated fairly who work in them. There is much corruption within the cooperatives, and often the President of the cooperative doesn’t disperse the money equally to the women who do the work. The fact that the nuts are cracked by women, doesn’t guarantee that the quality of the nuts that they are using is good, or that the argan oil hasn’t been mixed with another oil, or heavily processed, in the end result. It sounds like you read my blog post, so you know about the issue of the goats and region affecting nut quality. There are a few large associations that produce quality oil on the market sold at comparable prices to Kahina’s. I prefer to search out women who are further afield and can really use the help. I travel frequently to Morocco to ensure the quality of the oil and to make sure the women are treated fairly. I hopes this helps to dispel any cynicism.

I’m really interested in the products, but do they include GMO ingredients?

  10. Siobhan says:

@Elva Heck no! No GMOs here. From the horse’s mouth: Kahina Giving Beauty products do not and will never contain parabens, synthetics, sulfates, petroleum, GMOs, animal byproducts, artificial colors or fragrances. The boxes are made from 100% recycled materials. The bottles are made from high quality recyclable violet glass which also acts as a preservative by blocking out damaging light rays. They encourage their customers to return their bottles for reuse.

I couldn’t hold off any longer; I had to own your book now. The two of you have completely transformed the way I look at health and beauty products, and I can’t wait to read your book.

  12. sam says:

does anyone know how i can know if this argan brand is 100 % organics or not? because the bottle always says 100% argan oil
and if this brand called argan d’ore is good enough or not?

  13. A says:

    I LOVE Kahina!!!
The argan oil feels like silk. I’ve tried different brands of argan oil, and this is the most beautiful to the touch and smell, and I get the best results. Seems so delicate.
When I use a tiny bit of cleanser, mist on the rose water toner while my skin is still moist, then pat on two-three drops of argan oil on top of that (again, while my skin is still most from the toner), and then pat on a little facial lotion, I have the softest skin and it lasts all day. Soft like a baby’s skin, and I feel like there is really a protective layer. I highly recommend their products.
I’ve tried the travel kit twice now, and added the mask and toner. All are great, and really work well together.
I apply my make up (RMS) about 20 minutes later… I like to let the Kahina-goodness and glow soak in first to pamper myself.
Plus, the woman I’ve been in contact with to place my orders is always so lovely. She seems very nice and sincere.

  14. jenny says:

thank you so much. i just took the leap after reading your numerous mentions and recommendations for this brand. with the 15% discount i went for it… the cleanser, argan oil, eye cream, lotion + mask. as they say… go big or go home. after trying the soapwalla deodorant based on your recommendation I TRUST YOU COMPLETELY. thank you for sharing… i will spread the word on my end. xo

  15. jenny says:

umm… now thinking… should i have also purchased the serum and mist?
im confused on the moisturizing options – between the serum, argan oil and lotion — which should i use when?
    thanks so much!

  16. Rebecca says:

@jenny, the webpage has an “ask the esthetician” area that’s very helpful, if you don’t see your answers there I recommend contacting by e-mail or phone. Kahina has great customer service! For me, just the argan oil does it. I prefer to go simpler, as I’ve had so many skin issues over the years, and a short ingredient list makes things easier.

  17. A says:

@ Jenny. I think the toner is pretty amazing too. I don’t have the serum either. I’m 25 and deal with hormonal acne, and read on the Kahina website that the best combo for me would be to go without the serum.
I really feel like the toner does a great job of balancing, soothing, and prepping my skin to drink in some argan oil It might all be in my head… but I’ve noticed a luscious difference since misting on some toner while my skin is still damp after cleansing it and then adding argan oil. Hope that helps.

  18. Naomi says:

@jenny – I have all three (oil, serum & lotion) and I alternate depending on how I feel about my skin. The oil is definitely wonderful for those times when you feel your skin needs super TLC. I am still surprised, though, by just how often I use it, because I’d expected it to be one of those things I bring out only once or twice a week. It doesn’t take much to do the job (i.e. use sparingly) but I find I apply it pretty much every night and even some days – if you are careful with how much you apply it makes a wonderful canvas for make up and doesn’t leave your skin greasy.

The serum I use every morning and every night. I’ve never been a devoted serum user before, but after reading what the benefits of this product are I thought it sounded wonderful and it truly is. Some days I use only the serum as it will suffice for my moisturising needs. I love it!

I have the lotion because I bought a travel pack – I probably wouldn’t have purchased it otherwise. It’s lovely and on the days I feel serum alone isn’t enough I use the lotion. It is absorbed quickly and completely and feels great.

I suppose you need to decide what you want from your skincare products and then you can select the one(s) which best suit those needs. I would say that the product descriptions on the Kahina website are the best way to make up your mind, they really do describe what you can expect in benefits from each item – no hype, no exaggerating, no bulls**t!

Good luck – I hope you enjoy whatever you choose!

  19. @jenny – so excited for you! hope you love everything and that Kahina works for you. Thanks for your vote of confidence and willingness to spread the word.

As for the moisturizing options, our Serum is our most complex moisturizing/softening product with a blend of several different oils, including essential, which give it a scent profile as well.

The Lotion is lightweight and can be layered over top of the Serum or Argan Oil, or used by itself. It’s a good shield for the elements and is good for a more matte effect.

I’d recommend that for now you start with the products you’ve purchased and see how your skin responds. The Toning Mist does help the oil/Serum absorb more readily, as well as providing additional moisture (sodium hyaluronate), antioxidants, and many other benefits. Perhaps this can be your next purchase?

You can always email us at info@givingbeauty.com for more indepth answers, or check out our Ask the Esthetician page to read about what regimens have been recommended for other users.

I ordered some argan oil and I can’t wait for it to get here. I also think it’s awesome that the Kahina team is on here, communicating with their customers and skeptics alike. Fantastic!

  21. jenny says:

    krystal, agreed!

thank you kahina team, rebecca, A and naomi for the amazing advice. what a wonderful no more dirty looks community this has become. i cant wait to receive my order, start my new regime and play around with the options. also, just realized that kahina sells products at the exhale spas in the city so i can always check out the mist there. woohoo! xo

  22. Kahina team says:

@sam – our oil is certified organic by Ecocert and USDA. The Ecocert seal appears on our label so you can be sure.

  23. Emma says:

Although I am sure the Kahina argan oil is fantastic (and I trust you completely on this), it does come at a steep price.

Are there any other brands at lower prices that you would recommend, without sacrificing too much on the quality? There are tons of “100% pure organic argan oil” products if you search the internet, but which ones are worth it and not diluted/full of chemicals? I think a lot of readers would appreciate this info! Thanks in advance.

  24. jenny says:

hi all, I just wanted to return with an update since everyone (including the kahina team) was so kind to me pre-purchase. I have been using all kahina products purchased (face wash, toner, argan oil, face lotion + eye cream) and I L O V E it all. really. my skin is so thrilled to have finally found it’s natural skin care routine and of course I love too that 25% of all proceeds go to the women’s coop. in fact, I am so thrilled I just bought the serum too and for me, having only used it for two nights, it feels like the argan oil taken to a new level. skin feels like silk. thank you to everyone for leading me in this direction.
