RMS Living Luminizer: It’s Good to Shine
We love Leighton Meester’s glow, and like the author of this Hairpin post, we know how to fake it.
Call them what you will—luminizers, illuminators or highlighters—but this product category rules. We only discovered these shiny friends when writing the book, but highlighting has become a mainstay of our beauty routine. And as the post says:
…if you see models and actresses and think, “If only I had her cheekbones!” and you are NOT wearing highlighter, you are playing yourself.
The Hairpin gives some good tips on application, but we have to differ with their product of choice. Instead of Nars, we’re going to propose that you try rms living luminizer instead. One, because it’s clean. Two, because it’s one of the best products we’ve ever tried. Ever.
We’d also like to include some tips from Rose-Marie Swift, the creator of rms beauty. She suggests not only applying the living luminizer to cheekbones, but also to brow bones, the tip of your nose, the crest of your lip, and even your chin. Just play around with it—though use a light touch please, or it can look like shiny warpaint—and check yourself in natural light before leaving the house if you’re opting for daytime wear.
Are you a highlighter fan? What brand do you use?

Sorry, but I don’t agree with you about the model or person in the photos; I don’t see anything too special about her. I don’t use a luminizer and these photos certainly didn’t sell me. Too much make up on the right and kind of greasy looking skin in both photos.
Lovely effect on beautiful skin and a gorgeous face –
any thoughts on how it might work on an older or less perfect one?
Your raves about RMS luminizer are inspiring, and I universally love your product reviews.
I’m just wondering if it can enhance flawed complexions: ones with wrinkles or large pores, for example. Thanks!
In the past I have been a massive fan of Benefit HIgh Beam but since cleaning up my products I too am a fan of the RMS Living Luminizer.
I usually use luminizers at the top of my cheekbones, just under the corner of the eye. It gives a lovely, fresh, just-been-on-a-tropical-island look.
coconut oil!!!! works for me… :)
I know this is off-subject but, what are the best eye shadow primers there? I’m having the hardest time finding a clean one!
Love RMS Living Luminizer! One of my favorite products :)
And Rosemaria, to answer your question: yes, it can absolutely enhance a less than perfect complexion! Give it a try – there are several shops that provide samples of it if you want to give it a try :)
Actually Rosemaria, my mother hated the way makeup looked on her skin until she discovered RMS. It’s hard to explain but because it’s moisturizing and because of the quality of the ingredients it just doesn’t feel like makeup. It never cakes in creases and I’ve even found that the uncover-up conceals large pores really well. Ok, advertisement over. :)
Thank you, Stancie and Alexandra – wonderful advice, and much needed! I’m especially glad to know your mother’s experience, Alexandra. Muchas gracias!
i am newly obsessed with this product and found out about it on your blog – thanks ladies!!
i’ve also switched to john masters hair products (found through your book…) and my hair is happy happy!!
thanks beautiful ones!
p.s. i still haven’t discovered the best use for the luminizer on my cheeks. i use it on my eyes all the time. any ideas?
I put it on my upper left and right cheeks on the outside, under my eyes and angled upwards. That’s where my cheekbones are so I’d suggest maybe you try the same (meaning where your bones are), but play around! It also looks nice UNDER makeup. So like, put a little on your upper cheeks then put a little mineral powder on top? Where do you put it on your eyes?
Oh also another tip that we may have covered here that RMS herself taught us: Put a tiiiiiny bit on your upper lip in the middle in that little dent area between lip and nose. It makes for a very nice lip enhancer kind of.
I love RMS Beauty, particularly the Living Luminizer. I mix just a touch of it with my “Un” Coverup and use it under my eyes instead of concealer and it works really well to brighten the area without settling into fine lines.
I use highlighters/luminizer when I wear RMS or Vapour Organics, but I have yet to find one I really like to wear with powder minerals. All suggestions (preferably clean) appreciated!
Living Luminizer has lasted for absolutely ages, I use it daily. It delivers a very subtle glow, great for all times of the day. I use it on around my eyes, brow bone, cheeks, tips of nose and also a little around my top lip before I apply gloss. Don’t go overboard though, RMS is designed for natural looking results and makes your make up appear effortless.
I also heard from so many peoples that RMS Beauty, created by celebrity make-up artist Rose-Marie Swift, began to get my attention via reviews by London Makeup Girl. This package arrived with breath-taking speed, only two or three days after I placed my order, in a cute recycled gift box with a pink raffia ribbon and several skin care samples from other lines.
