So this is off-topic (maybe you could have an open thread link up top?) and more just me soliciting advice. So I’ve been trying a bunch of different clean beauty methods and products to regulate my skin. So far, I’m hitting a wall. I bought argan oil and while it feels great at first (especially after cleansing) it’s not long til my face becomes a monstrously oil slick once again. I even tried not washing my face for a while (that ended up in disaster). Now I use a gentle cleanser from Alaffia, which smells and feels great, and I do a mud mask every week or so. I use a washcloth for light scrubbing action when I feel too congested. I even watch what I eat, and make sure to consume the proper omegas and such. I’ve been doing this for almost two months. I’d really rather not go to a dermatologist because my insurance hardly covers it. (And the prescriptions end up costing $150 a tube. No joke. $150 for clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide. And it’s harsh as hell.) So anyway… I know you might not have all the answers, but I was wondering if you’ve had this issue before. What do you recommend? And what other resources would you also recommend? Thanks muchly.

Hey Emily! What’s your main issue? Cystic acne? Oily skin? Surface acne? Were you having more success with “dirty” products—just curious what the parameters are before throwing out some advice!

  3. Emily says:

Oily skin definitely, and mostly surface acne but some cysts once in a while. The constant sheen of oil means it’s always congested somehow.. I still had the same problems before, though I would go through periods of clearness using Rx or fancy treatments. it would always revert, though, so that didn’t seem like the answer.

Okay I think we have ourselves a separate post! We’re going to use some of your comments here and make an entry about it. Can you email us at our nmdl gmail address (listed under “contact”) and tell us your age and a description of what you’re battling with, and then we’ll make some suggestions!
