Holiday Weekend Sunscreen Picks
Hurray for holiday weekends! We’re looking forward to some serious beaching and barbecuing—and with sunshine in the forecast, sunscreen will be on the menu too.
With all the hoopla about sunscreens of late though, it’s hard to know which to use. We love that the EWG provides a list of its top picks, but it’d be great to know where some of these brands are actually available, no? So—while we encourage you to check your own local health food store as well—we just made a quick list of a few you can grab at Target or Whole Foods on your way to holiday fun…
Whole Foods/Whole Body carries: Alba Botanica, All Terrain, Badger, California Baby, Desert Essence, JASON Sunbrellas and others on the EWG list depending on the region.
Target carries: California Baby and Alba (though not the Botanica version, still a decent bet).
Got a favorite natural sunscreen to recommend?
I use La Roche-Posay Anthelios. I’m not sure exactly how natural it is, but it is the only sunscreen that I have found that doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, isn’t greasy, and it actually makes my face glow — gotta be something good!
I’ve started using Trader Joe’s SPF 30 – it’s a 4 on the toxicity scale at cosmeticdatabase.com, but that’s about the lowest score I can find on a regular store shelf. Anything less requires online ordering, a specialty store, and a lot of extra money.
